Matthias Wynkoop
Partner, Kingston
Matthias works with families who are suddenly pricing a nursing home or a home aide, and have a month to understand the options.
He explains the ways care gets paid for, helps with Medicaid and veterans benefit applications, and handles guardianship when a parent can no longer decide alone. His rule is that nobody signs anything until they can say back, in their own words, what it does.
Works most on
- Medicaid planning
- Long-term care costs
- Guardianship
- Veterans benefits

He starts with the monthly bill
Matthias begins long-term care meetings with a single sheet of paper: what care costs this month, what the household brings in, and what is saved. Everything else follows from those three numbers.
Families often arrive thinking the only choices are to spend everything or to do something clever. He lays out the ordinary middle: benefits a parent has already earned, programs that pay for care at home, and the rules for the house.
He keeps a jar of dried beans on his desk from the family meeting he runs once a year for his own parents. Ask him about it.
