Ngozi Beckford

Attorney, Poughkeepsie

Ngozi walks executors through the months after a death, one letter and one deadline at a time, and plans for relatives who need lifelong support.

She handles estate administration from the first court filing to the last accounting, and writes trusts that keep a disabled relative’s benefits safe. Executors get a calendar on day one so nothing is a surprise.

A calendar for the executor

Being named executor feels like being handed a job nobody explained. Ngozi starts every estate by turning the next several months into a calendar: what to send, what to sign, what to wait for.

Most of it is mail. Banks, the pension office, the insurance company, the tax preparer. She writes the letters with you and keeps a running list of what has come back.

She also plans for relatives who will need support for life, so that an inheritance never costs someone their benefits.
